ZOMBIE MARATHON

October 6, 2007
FROM DUSK UNTIL DAWN
7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Blood! Brains! Zombies! All at the Somerville Theatre!

These were the films that played and the contests!

BRAIN EATING CONTEST!
12 people tried to win the hearts and brains of the attendees by gulping down a disgusting looking combination of jello and vermicelli/ After narrowing down to three, the winner showed a certain brio by staggering to the trough and having red vermicelli drool out of his mouth. Within the next few hours, we will have his audio comments up on this site.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD
Great kick off film! Better with repeated viewings.

Peter Jackson's DEAD ALIVE aka BRAIN DEAD

Peter Jackson's 1992 film lived up to it's billing - gory and funny.

FIDO

This film closed out the fest, not great, but still a worthy addition.

ZOMBIE
A badly tinted print, a bit crude, but a good 3:00 AM film.

28 WEEKS LATER
The sequel that may be a tad better than the original.

28 DAYS LATER
Still one of my favs!.

What did you think? Leave a comment!

thanks

Zombie is cool :)

Sorry

As a horror, the film is not really scary but does have a good gutful of gore to go around. The zombies are slow, and this will not work for modern audiences, but it does hark back to the old zombie flicks and also allows the material to work. I closed my eyes a few times as the film provided blood, and it does have the odd moment that is touching. Of course the laughs are everything and, aside from a slow start and a more horror-focused ending, this is consistently funny.

yeah

I agre with you! :)

In my opinion

Having seen 28 Days Later I thought I was prepared for this, but I was not. Somewhere near the beginning of the film is a scene that goes from zero to psycho in about 2 seconds flat. The beginning of 2004's Dawn of the Dead also had a wildly chaotic kick-off scene, but unlike that film, which was a great film to laugh through while chomping your popcorn, this film is no laughing matter.
When there's no violence, there's fear and tension.
When there is on-screen violence, there is absolute shock and horror. Scene after scene shows ordinary people placed in impossible situations from which they cannot escape. This time, of course, there now two implacable predators out there hunting them down: the rage virus from the first film, and the military which is attempting to maintain control of any outbreak, but is willing to visit unspeakable horrors upon innocent people if they cannot keep that control. The horror and scale of the virus is so severe, that the plans the military implements are completely plausible.
The actions scenes are masterfully done, effectively placing the viewer in the points of view of both the victims and the crazed, but still scarily human, zombies. The portrayal of the violence pulls no punches; people of all age groups and walks of life are destroyed without remorse. No attempt is made to soft-pedal it. The fragility of human life on Earth and its vulnerability to just the right nasty virus are thoughts that stay with you after you've left the theater, and add a nice "after taste" of fear. The soundtrack, as with the first film, is amazing in conveying the tension and dread and sadness of the scenes. The story is fairly tight, as well. My only complaints might be with the acting of some of the soldiers, which just didn't feel authentic to me for some reason.fosamax 70 mg

Sorry

Read your Zombie Movies list- great list! Thanks for that– it’s going to give me alot more movies to check out!
I honestly think one of the best Zombie flicks of all time is “Return of the Living Dead.” (#8 on your list) I saw it so many years ago, and I think it was the the one that got me hooked. I do have to agree though, the “Dawn” remake was brilliant.
Oh– and I also agree the first 10 minutes of “28 Weeks Later” were amazing– some of the most intense I’ve seen in a zombie flick. I’ve started a blog, and I discussed this in my posting “The Best Zombie Scene Ever”. When I read your list and similar comment, I just had to drop you and email.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

I agree. Thanks. replica watches

horror

i heard about this fest a few days before it happened and ended up driving from rochester NY (6 hours each way) to get to it and it was totally worth it. fido was the highlight for me as well, buy movies i thought it was stellar and its great to see people doing new things with the zombie concept. my only complaint would be the inclusion of the 28 days movies, i think they are excellent films but they were just in theaters recently so i didn't have a burning desire to see 35mm prints of them, and it would have been nice to have had some more classics instead.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD is my favorite

Saw it approximately 5-6 times. It's great.

Bestbuy

I just headed over to Bestbuy with a Gift certificate I got for the Holidays and purchase 13 hours of Zombie Footage for 7 dollars. :P

I'm a fan of Zombie flicks and such and if any of you guys are also interested you can buy the "The Living Dead" 9 movie, 3 disc pack for 7 dollars. :D

I thought I'd let the other Zombie movie lovers know in case they were dying for some zombie action.

Alot of these movies are the classics...

-The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave
-The House by The Cemetery
-Fangs Of The Living Dead
-I Eat Your Skin
-The Last Man On Earth
-King of the Zombies
-Night Of The Living Dead
-The Thirsty Dead
-Messiah Of Evil

Awesome! 8-) Anyone else a Zombie movie fan?

Zombie Night Was Awesome!!!!!!

I had the time of my life! I can't wait to do more events like it! Every movie was a hit with me, but I was a bit disappointed with 28 Weeks Later; an American sequel to a British horror flick is as unnatural as the zombies in the movie.

I like the suggestions of doing something different nwxt year. Mix it up...how about: vampires, werewolves, witches, creatures, ghosts and hauntings, etc., you can have different themes going 10, 15 years out if you put your mind to it.

cool

(this page didn't accept my board login for some reason, had to create it again)
"Fido" was easily the highlight of the whole thing for me. Not a purebred zombie movie by any means, but a really fun film

zombies are cool!

Hey Garen, the new site looks great. I can't wait to hear more about the Zombie-Thon!
